During winters, the humidity levels are extremely low. Therefore, the odds of developing dry, irritated and rashed skin is extremely high during winters. Given below are some of the things you can do to make your skin comfortable and smooth even during the harshest of the weather.

Firstly, using a humidifier is extremely important since more and more people are introducing heaters in their houses. These heaters and the closed windows in the houses can cause the air inside the house to remain dry. A humidifier helps to moisturize the air. You need not but an extremely costly humidifier. Get one form a local store and it should be fine.

Secondly, make sure your skin is always moisturized. Use oil-base moisturizer preferably. Some moisturizers have as much as 80% oil in it. Thus, the more oil the moisturizer contains the more effective it is. These moisturizers form a protective layer around the skin and help to keep it supple and smooth.

Sunscreens are not only to be used in summers. Even in winters the use of a high SPF sunscreen is important. Preferably try using SPF 30 or SPF 40. The sun is equally harsh in winters and therefore do not forget using a sunscreen before you step out.

Now it is difficult to use a moisturizer as well as a sunscreen both at the same time. Therefore you can pick one that has a combination of both. You can also consult a dermatologist for the same. However, make sure you are not using opposite ingredients in both the sunscreen and the moisturizer. This could affect your skin negatively.

Equally important during winters is to dress well. Do not forget to wear your gloves. You have to protect your hands from the harsh winter air. Cover your body as much as possible. Try and dress in layers. You can remove the clothing as and when required so as to prevent overheating.

You need to take as much care of your skin summer as much as you do in winter. A little carelessness can lead to problems of dry skin.

A common problem amongst the wide range of people, dry skin can affect a person in summers or winters. If left untreated it can lead to patches and wrinkles on the skin and further cause skin diseases in the future. Dry skin patches can be most pronounced on the face, elbows and knees. However, the patches on the face can be extremely discomforting and embarrassing. Dry skin patches can cause severe itching and the rubbing of this area further aggravates the problem. It may even lead to infections and other skin problems. These dry patches along with dehydration and chemical use can also be caused due to the side effects of certain types of medicines and changes in hormones during pregnancy. Certain illnesses may also be responsible for flaky and patchy skin.

A condition called Seborrhoeic Dermatitis affects the face and scalp resulting in scaly, red, and patchy skin. It is mainly caused due to the lack of Vitamin B6 and Vitamin B2. It can be treated using medicines prescribed by a dermatologist.

Many a times, dry skin patches are a result of allergic reaction to a number of chemicals in products etc. These products need not necessarily be a skin product. It could be something like jewelry especially imitation jewelry and certain types of perfumes. Along with patches one can also develop blisters, rashes and a strong burning sensation.

Dry patchy skin is also a result of aging. As we age, the collagen in the skin and the elastic is lost. This can lead to a number of skin imperfections, one of them being patches.

Body washes and soaps can also lead to patches on the skin depending on the chemical content in them. Some soap can cause allergies or can severely rob the skin of the natural moisture and oils. Use of moisturizing soaps can be very beneficial to the skin and can prevent patches. However, it is advisable to use facial cleanser or face wash on the face rather than any kind of soap.

Thus there are a number of reasons for dry skin patches which are avoidable and therefore should be prevented.

Itching is the most common problem one faces when he or she has dry skin. When the skin itches you tend to scratch it. Thus, it itches even more and causes redness even. Therefore it is very important not to scratch the itch. You may have a strong urge to scratch but try and curb it. Scratching only adds to your problems.

Find out what has caused the itch. Then try and use a mild soap and water or simply Aloe Vera gel on the dry area causing the itch. Wash with lukewarm water only. If you have any product that controls itching, apply it. However, my advice is to stick to Aloe Vera gel only.

Add baking soda to your bath water to control the itching. You can even try applying ice to the itching area. It causes numbness which is indeed helpful.

There are a number of over the counter medicines which can be very effective. You can choose one of them. If the itching gets worse or develops into swelling or something else, consult your local physician immediately. Do not leave an itch untreated as it can easily spread to other areas. Moreover, do not scratch and then touch other parts of the body. They might get infected too. So beware!

Wear loose, light and cotton clothes in summer to prevent itches in dry skin. Tight clothing leads to rubbing of the material against the sweaty skin which can cause severe itching and allergy. Some materials like nylon etc. are just not right for the skin during summers.

If the itching continues for more than a week or so or if it spreads to other parts, be sure to consult you doctor as the itching may be a symptom of a much larger, yet to be detected or diagnosed problem.

Dry Skin itching in winters is mainly due to the lack of humidity. There is a constant urge to rub your hands over your face. As far as possible this should be avoided. When you scratch an itch, you are also rubbing off the applied moisturizer or lotion. You need to be careful about it and avoid it.

Not every one is blessed with supple, glowing skin. Those who are not have to take timely measures to achieve that perfect skin. As you grow in age, the skin undergoes numerous changes. Some people may earlier have had good skin, but now due to repeated exposure to the sun and pollution of daily life which escapes no one, the odds of developing dry and sensitive skin have increased tremendously.

Your skin becomes more and more sensitive as you grow older. You must have experienced times when your skin itched and became red or developed rashes even after the most subtle use of cleansing material or face scrub. This problem is common for more than half of the population using skin creams and facial scrubs.

The reason for dryness of the skin is no other than the less retention of moisture in the skin cells. As you know, our skin has three layers. The outermost layer acts as a barrier to retain the moisture beneath the skin. If your skin has less moisture then the barrier becomes less strong and the room for impurities to enter and damage the skin increases greatly.

The use of a variety of beauty products can also lead to the outermost cell layer to become weaker and weaker. Moisture is greatly lost when you keep experimenting with products because each time, the skin is trying to accustom itself to a new product.

Thus dryness of the skin and the sensitivity of the same have a close and intimate connection which needs to be considered in conjunction with each other while dealing with the problem of dry sensitive skin.

Most of the creams available in the market are too general to cater to your specific skin requirements. If you are very serious about the condition of your skin, it is virtuous to consult a skin clinic. In most skin clinics, a thorough and detailed analysis of the skin is done then the results are placed before the client. The client is explained of the consequences of further damage to her dry sensitive skin and then provided with individual-tailored treatments which can effectively cure the problem.

People have different skin types ranging from the oily skin types to the very dry. To them, these skin types present different problems even the ones considered to have normal skin end up complaining. Dry skin comes with its set of challenges but les find out how exactly one ends up getting dry skin. One of the major causes of dry skin is taking insufficient amounts of water. Lack of water causes dehydration which in turn translates to one having dry skin.

Treating this is however not hard, just take lots of water (recommended at least 8 glasses a day). There are also a number of diseases whose symptoms include having dry skin. Such diseases include diabetes and eczema and can be medically treated.

Another cause of dry skin that is spreading at an alarming rate is the use of substandard skin products on someone’s in the quest of getting flawless skin. Most of these skin care products end up reacting negatively with the skin end up with a more disastrous result. Therefore before buying any cosmetic always check on the ingredients used to manufacture them.

Some cosmetic products like perfumes contain alcohol which is harmful to the skin. Ever wondered why people who have taken alcohol over a long period of time end up looking much older than their actual age? Well here is the answer. Alcohol absorbs lipids from the body which are essential for healthy skin. A person’s genes may also be a cause of dry skin. This is however not the person’s fault as this is a hereditary condition.

Changes in weather can also cause dry skin. People react differently to different weather conditions. The skin is bound to loose plenty of moisture when the weather is very cold or windy. Aging is yet another cause of dry skin. Take a simple test; compare a baby’s skin and that of an old person. The reason is simple, over time as a person grows older lipids and other body oils diminish from the body and all that is left is dry skin. Who can blame these people?

There is nothing more calming than taking a nice warm bath at the end of a busy day to relax and soothe the mind and body. However, if you are among those who suffer with dry skin conditions, you may want to enhance this experience by adding milk to your bath water. Indulging yourself in a luscious milk bath can be quite the beneficial dry skin therapy.

Enjoying in a soothing milk bath may sound a little bizarre yet alluring, but in the past, women have used the technique of milk baths as routine to their beautifying aspirations of having smooth, baby-soft skin. Recorded documentation of milk baths are indicated way back in Roman and Egyptian history. All over the world, country folk have utilized milk baths to remedy skin that has been abused by the elements of nature and to assist healing of dry skin and chafing. Today, many elite spas offer milk baths for cleansing and nourishing the skin.

Milk bathing is one of the simplest means to promote skin health and is an excellent choice for those who suffer with sensitive, irritated and intensely dry skin conditions. Rejuvenation of the skin’s health and improvement of the dry skin issue may be felt immediately! Milk does work wonders for moisturizing dry skin and should be considered as a prime dry skin remedy.

And you can take a milk bath in the comfort of your own home! The ultimate method of a dry skin therapy would be to fill the bath totally with warmed milk! Nevertheless, this is a bit unpopular due to the cost and the labor and difficulty to warm up that much milk. There is also the option of buying pre-mixed milk bath products. If choosing these products, take heed to some of the added ingredients making sure they are all natural with no synthetic, possibly harmful ingredients.

The more sensible and cost-efficient, easy but effective way to embrace a dry skin remedy through the use of a milk bath consists of using several cups of warmed whole-fat milk (powdered or condensed milk may be used) added to a tub full of lukewarm water.

Pour the milk under the running water and then with your hands or feet, swirl the water around. Your milk bath is ready to enjoy! Soaking in your milk bath should only last about 10 minutes. Afterwards, you will want to properly rinse off – this is key to a silkier soft skin sensation. Applying a natural body oil to lock in the moisture gained from the milk bath is the last step to facilitate for this dry skin treatment.

There are many nourishing components of milk that enable this dry skin therapy to produce a new glowing appearance of the skin. The protein and fats in the milk replenishes the soft and supple feeling of dry skin. This is why it is imperative to use whole milk where the fat content is higher. There are two acids in milk that aid in the therapy. Lactic acid gently cleanses the sensitive, dry skin, while it softens. Beta hydroxy acid sloughs off the old skin, allowing the more vibrant skin to emerge.

When mentioning a milk bath, one might assume cow’s milk. Although, there are other milk options that may be used and still benefits will be promoted. Cleopatra was known to relish in ass’s (donkey) milk, which accounted for her youthful glow. Today, some of the other options include but are not limited to – goat’s milk, sheep milk, coconut milk, oat milk, soy milk, almond milk, and rice milk.

You can modify your milk bath to fit your mood or needs. Herbs, spices or esessential oils may be added for specific desires. These additions can be used as fragrance to blanket the scent of the milk that may be unpleasant to some. Many will use them to further enhance the milk bath’s benefits of dry skin. Two very popular additions to milk baths are honey and oatmeal. These both will aid in protecting the skin. Honey provides extra nutrition for skin health while softening dry skin. Oatmeal is amazing for soothing dry, itchy skin.

You will be amazed to finally get relief from your dry skin and turn it into younger-looking, soft, and smooth skin utilizing this wonderfully easy and effective dry skin treatment! It’s time to indulge yourself in a luscious milk bath!

In fact from medical point of view these two terms refers to quite different skin condition, thus any treatment for each skin condition quite different too.

Even though dry skin mostly genetic, other factors such as climate, average common temperature, and bathing habits can also causes dry skin. People who are born with dry skin were very rare to have acnes or pimples on their skin, because their skin contains less oil. Amongst some realizable symptoms of dry skin, one that very obvious is visibly rough pores mostly on hand, between eyebrows, nose, and chin.

Dry skin in other hand, can be experienced due to any external condition that causes skin’s moisture level evaporates fast. People who drinks water less then recommended daily amount to drink, much more likely to suffer dehydrated skin.
Dry Skin Treatment

Treatment for dry skin can be approach from the inside and outside the body. Consuming healthy foods that contains enough fat is the way we approach dry skin treatment from inside. That way, we can naturally increase amount of oil within skin. Treatment from outside the body can be approach by using moisturizers and skin lotions and creams.

Dehydrated Skin Treatment

As well dry skin treatment, dehydrated skin treatment also can be approached either from inside and outside the body. Drinking enough amount of water daily is one example approach for dehydrated skin treatment as well as not smoking.

Practical approach for dehydrated skin treatment from outside the body should be emphasizes on how we can keep and increases the skin’s hydration, such us:

As one of the major skin ailments affecting many people all over the world, Dry skin problem is often a chronic problem that keeps cropping up every now and then. There are a variety of reasons why dry skin problems are caused and the treatment for dry skin necessitates the identification of the cause and eliminating it to reduce dry skin. Also, many a times some or the other dry skin products will need to be used to alleviate the problem and to prevent further recurrence.

But, one must remember that in many instances dry skin problems can be overcome just by incorporating some lifestyle changes and elimination of the cause of dry skin without using any dry skin products or with just the minimum use of some appropriate products to promote healing and for moisturizing the skin.

Also, one should remember that there are many dry skin products that should be avoided at all costs. These products although indicated for dry skin may actually contribute to increasing the symptoms of dry skin when the product is not being used or after some time following usage. Some such products that should be avoided at all costs include those that contain mineral oils in them or have petrolatum or have an alcohol base.

The main problem with dry skin is the loss of moisture from the skin. The skin needs to be hydrated and retain the moisture to prevent the occurrence of dry skin. This can be achieved by incorporating lifestyle changes such as avoiding long baths, avoiding use of harsh soaps, drinking adequate quantity of water every day, avoiding the use of synthetic clothing, using a humidifier in the home, etc.

In many cases, just incorporating such lifestyle changes will help reduce the symptoms of dry skin and prevent recurrence if care is taken. But, in addition, many people would want to use some dry skin products to help reduce the problem effectively and quickly.

Moisturizers are the most basic of dry skin products that is used by many people for dry skin treatment. Moisturizers will help in retaining the moisture content in the skin and prevent it from going dry. It is best to use moisturizers when the skin is still damp after bathing to prevent the moisture in the skin from drying. The use of moisturizers is sufficient if proper lifestyle changes have been undertaken along with it.

If other skin changes like severe itching, redness, flaking, or other severe symptoms, then just incorporating lifestyle changes and the use of moisturizers might not be enough. Then the use of emollients is necessitated. These emollients will help in soothing the skin and will promote healing of the affected skin area and will help in alleviating the severe symptoms that are seen.

There are many other medicated dry skin products that are available on the market. But, it is best not to use these products unless it has been prescribed to you by a qualified doctor. If the use of basic moisturizers and emollients is not helping in reducing the symptoms of dry skin that you are facing, it is best to consult a qualified medical practitioner to address the problem.

Dry skin can occur in any individual of any age although the occurrence is seen to rise as the person’s age advances or in other words, an aged person is more likely to suffer from problems of dry skin than a younger person.

People try out a variety of home remedies to counter dry skin. The response that one gets to such dry skin treatments is also different for people of differing ages with older people less likely to gain benefits that a younger person gets.

Let us now see why aging has an influence in increasing the occurrence of dry skin and why older people suffer more from this common condition.

The skin of people contains important glands like the sebaceous glands and the sweat glands. The sebaceous glands produce an oily substance called sebum. This sebum is responsible for holding the moisture within the skin and making it soft and supple. The sweat glands as most of us know produce sweat that helps in regulating body temperature and removing harmful toxins from the body. It is also helpful in preventing the multiplication of harmful bacteria on the skin surface.

As age advances, the activity of the sebaceous glands and the sweat glands gradually reduces. This rate of reduced activity is seen to be higher among women than in men. As these glands play a role in maintaining the moisture content of the skin, their reduced activity is responsible for the formation of dry skin.

Also, as age advances, the response of the skin to lifestyle issues responsible for dry skin formation also becomes higher. For example, the skin becomes more sensitive to chemicals present in harsh soaps or hand sanitizers causing the occurrence of dry skin.

As the response to stimuli is exaggerated, even the dry skin treatment in the elderly will have some amount of variation than the treatment that is undertaken for correcting dry skin in a younger person.

While lifestyle changes like avoiding long baths or showers, avoiding the use of harsh soaps, avoiding the use of air conditioners and humidifiers, avoiding too much exposure to direct sunlight, etc are commonly advocated both in the elderly and the young to counter dry skin, some important precautions need to be exercised while providing dry skin treatment in the elderly.

Important among them is the increased care that needs to be taken while using any products for dry skin treatment. The sensitivity of the skin to these products is greatly increased in the elderly and might cause more harm than good. So, if products are used, they should be used with caution.

Mild soaps or cleansers are the best when it comes to dry skin treatment in the elderly. These have the quality of avoiding unnecessary irritation to the skin while being safe to use even while cleansing the sensitive dry skin of the elderly person.

Emollients to soothe chapped or flaky areas of dry skin is also advocated but with the necessary care and caution. If there is any sensitivity seen, the product is immediately stopped and necessary medical care is sought at the earliest. Instead, natural products like coconut oil can also be used to soothe the skin and to provide some lubrication and softness to the skin and helping the skin to retain the moisture.

If any of the home remedies that you are trying for dry skin treatment in the elderly do not have the desired effects and the symptoms are continuing to worsen, it is best to seek medical help at the earliest.

Dry skin is a problem that afflicts many an individual all over the globe. The skin becomes itchy, flaky and looks quite attractive. Also, dry skin is not a very healthy skin condition. Many people try different methods and products with varying degrees of success in dry skin treatment.

Before we get into dry skin treatment, let us first see if there is any association between geographical location and the occurrence of dry skin.

Dry skin primarily occurs due to the inability of the skin to retain moisture. So, dry skin has a tendency to occur more in areas that are predominantly dry areas. Therefore, you will see an increased occurrence of people suffering from dry skin in these areas. But, dry skin occurrence need not be predisposed only to these areas alone and can occur in any geographical location although it will not be as high as seen in these areas.

So, if you are suffering from dry skin, one factor that you need to look into is the climatic condition in your area. If the area in which you reside is predominantly having dry climate, it is common for you to suffer from periodic episodes of dry skin when the climate in the area goes drier.

So, one good way to avoid dry skin if you are in an area that has more of dry climate is to understand the times at which you have such a climate and provide increased care for your skin to eliminate the occurrence of dry skin and thus avoid any need of further dry skin treatment.

For effective dry skin treatment, you need to realize the necessity of avoiding loss of moisture from your skin. The more the skin loses moisture, the more is the chances of occurrence of dry skin.

If you live in a dry environment and are suffering from frequent episodes of dry skin, some common lifestyle changes are necessary along with using products for dry skin treatment.

Some of the lifestyle changes that you can employ to avoid occurrence of dry skin might include the following:

Frequent hot water baths or having long baths can increase the chances of dry skin occurrence. This needs to be avoided.

Use of harsh chemical soaps can increase the chances of dry skin occurrence. These must be replaced by the use of mild cleansers that are available.

It is best to use warm water for bathing rather than hot water as hot water has the tendency to reduce moisture content in your skin and cause increased drying.

The use of Air conditioners is also a cause for dry skin. Avoid remaining in an air conditioned atmosphere for increased periods of time.

You need to keep your skin hydrated. For this reason, you need to consume copious amount of water everyday.

Use a combination of a sunscreen and a moisturizer everyday. The moisturizer should be used immediately after you bathe before the skin gets dry.

If you live in a dry climate area, you are more likely to suffer from dry skin that is not caused due to any other problems apart from the climatic condition. If you adopt some of these lifestyle changes, you are more likely to avoid the occurrence of dry skin and will not need any more products or medication towards dry skin treatment.
