Posted by Dry Skin Treatment on Oct 23, 2009

Dry skin is a problem that afflicts many an individual all over the globe. The skin becomes itchy, flaky and looks quite attractive. Also, dry skin is not a very healthy skin condition. Many people try different methods and products with varying degrees of success in dry skin treatment.

Before we get into dry skin treatment, let us first see if there is any association between geographical location and the occurrence of dry skin.

Dry skin primarily occurs due to the inability of the skin to retain moisture. So, dry skin has a tendency to occur more in areas that are predominantly dry areas. Therefore, you will see an increased occurrence of people suffering from dry skin in these areas. But, dry skin occurrence need not be predisposed only to these areas alone and can occur in any geographical location although it will not be as high as seen in these areas.

So, if you are suffering from dry skin, one factor that you need to look into is the climatic condition in your area. If the area in which you reside is predominantly having dry climate, it is common for you to suffer from periodic episodes of dry skin when the climate in the area goes drier.

So, one good way to avoid dry skin if you are in an area that has more of dry climate is to understand the times at which you have such a climate and provide increased care for your skin to eliminate the occurrence of dry skin and thus avoid any need of further dry skin treatment.

For effective dry skin treatment, you need to realize the necessity of avoiding loss of moisture from your skin. The more the skin loses moisture, the more is the chances of occurrence of dry skin.

If you live in a dry environment and are suffering from frequent episodes of dry skin, some common lifestyle changes are necessary along with using products for dry skin treatment.

Some of the lifestyle changes that you can employ to avoid occurrence of dry skin might include the following:

  • Frequent hot water baths or having long baths can increase the chances of dry skin occurrence. This needs to be avoided.
  • Use of harsh chemical soaps can increase the chances of dry skin occurrence. These must be replaced by the use of mild cleansers that are available.
  • It is best to use warm water for bathing rather than hot water as hot water has the tendency to reduce moisture content in your skin and cause increased drying.
  • The use of Air conditioners is also a cause for dry skin. Avoid remaining in an air conditioned atmosphere for increased periods of time.
  • You need to keep your skin hydrated. For this reason, you need to consume copious amount of water everyday.
  • Use a combination of a sunscreen and a moisturizer everyday. The moisturizer should be used immediately after you bathe before the skin gets dry.

If you live in a dry climate area, you are more likely to suffer from dry skin that is not caused due to any other problems apart from the climatic condition. If you adopt some of these lifestyle changes, you are more likely to avoid the occurrence of dry skin and will not need any more products or medication towards dry skin treatment.

Michael Scott:

Drink plenty of water, and also vitamin E is really good for dry skin, too. You can take supplemental pills, or just rub the oil directly onto the dry spots.
