Dry Skin on Hands
Posted by Dry Skin Treatment on Aug 21, 2010
Our hands are probably the most used parts of the body right from the time we wake up until we go to bed at night. Throughout the day, your hands come into contact with a variety of objects that could cause infections and settling of bacteria. Hands are as equally exposed to the hazards of environmental conditions as are other parts. Thus, timely care of hands also needs to be taken.
One of the ways to care for your hands include: taking 2 to 3 cups of buttermilk and heating it to the lukewarm state. Then you can soak your hands in it for about 20 minutes. Immediately thereafter, apply a few drops of Vitamin E on your hands. Following that, apply a generous amount of petroleum jelly on it. Wrap your hands in a cotton cloth or gloves. Keep it until the morning when you can remove the gloves or cloth and rinse your hands.
Always make sure when you apply sunscreen you apply it generously to your hands as well. The tanning and drying of the skin on the hands is very fast because it is most exposed and most neglected part of the body. You may have noticed how your skin around the wrist (if you wear a watch) or upper half of the arm (if you wear half sleeved clothes) is remarkably different form the exposed areas of the hands.
Make sure you do not ignore your fingers. A good manicure once a week helps to take care of your hands really well. But this does not mean you should not care the other days. The area around the fingernails tends to get dark very easily. This is the region that is the driest as well. The back of your hand deserves special attention. Massage it well and try and keep it covered especially during winters. Summers evidently deprive you of that opportunity but a healthy load of sunscreen frequently during the day should be just fine.
The palm can get extremely chappy during the winters. Make sure you apply enough winter care lotion. Avoid trying to peel the dry skin out with your hand. It could result in the peeling of the good skin as well.

Many people today have become very conscious and skeptical about the use of artificial lotions and moisturizers to tackle their dry skin problems. Some products are outright ineffective and some others may be detrimental to the skin in the long run. Under such circumstances, the reliance and preference for natural or home remedies to tackle dry skin problems is increasing. Given below are a few natural remedies that have been successfully used by many and are even found in artificial moisturizers.
- Use of olive oil or almond oil to massage your face and body right before you go to bed can work wonders for your skin.
- Always make sure your liquid intake in general and water intake in particular is high.
- Use only lukewarm water to bathe and wash your face even in winters as warm water perpetuates dry skin.
- A mashed banana applied to your face and neck every morning for 10 to 15 minutes is also very helpful to get rid of dry skin.
- Rose water and lime juice are very good for dry skin. Sprinkle it on your face and leave it for sometime. Wipe it of with a clean towel. It is the most inexpensive treatment to dry skin.
- Castor Oil and avocado oil can be used on the feet as the skin here is harder and different from that on the face.
- Have a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables rich in Vitamins and Minerals as it increases blood circulation and provides the much required nourishment to the skin.
- Do light exercises on a regular basis. Do not stress yourself out a lot. Avoid sleeping late or eating junk food or consuming alcohol and caffeine disproportionately.
- You can also add lavender oil to your bath water. Occasionally you can try a milk bath as well.
- Mixing unpastuerized milk with mustard and applying it on the face for about 25 minutes or so is a real miracle worker.
Egg yolk is also really good for your face. You can simply apply it over your face and wash it off. You can even mix with rose water and lime or orange juice to form a paste and keep it on the face for sometime.
Dry Skin Mask

A huge variety of masks to prevent dry skin can be made in the closed quarters of your house to deal with the dry skin condition. The advantages of this are plenty. You can experiment with a variety of food items without the fear of any sort of side effect. It is cheap and it is absolutely safe. All you need is to invest a little time to prepare the mask. The following are some of the most masks amongst women using them for a long time now:
- A mixture of vegetable oil, lanolin cream and cucumber juice applied for 15 minutes followed by a wash with herbal extract is very popular amongst women. Make sure to work it out into a paste.
- To rid yourself of wrinkles on dry skin all you need to do is boil grated cabbage in milk until it becomes soft. Then apply the paste on the face and neck for about 20 minutes. You can also add an egg yolk and lemon juice to this mixture.
- A mixture of honey and olive oil heated until it becomes a fluid and applied to the face followed by a covering with a cloth for about 20 minutes also works very well. However, a word of caution needs to be exercised here. Just in case you have red capillaries across your face it is better to soak a wet towel in potato juice and dab it all over your face.
- A mixture of egg yolk, potato and milk also forms a good facial and neck mask for wrinkled dry skin.
Thus a lot of permutations and combinations are available at your disposal in case you wish to use facial masks. The most common items that go into making any kind of mask for dry skin includes: lemon juice, egg yolk, milk, potato and cucumber. Honey can also be used equally commonly. However, some people are known to be allergic to honey or even milk for that matter. In such cases these elements can easily be substituted with the equally effective others. Dry skin masks are easy to make and are indeed very effective.
Dry Skin Itching
Posted by Dry Skin Treatment on Jul 1, 2010
Itching is the most common problem one faces when he or she has dry skin. When the skin itches you tend to scratch it. Thus, it itches even more and causes redness even. Therefore it is very important not to scratch the itch. You may have a strong urge to scratch but try and curb it. Scratching only adds to your problems.
Find out what has caused the itch. Then try and use a mild soap and water or simply Aloe Vera gel on the dry area causing the itch. Wash with lukewarm water only. If you have any product that controls itching, apply it. However, my advice is to stick to Aloe Vera gel only.
Add baking soda to your bath water to control the itching. You can even try applying ice to the itching area. It causes numbness which is indeed helpful.
There are a number of over the counter medicines which can be very effective. You can choose one of them. If the itching gets worse or develops into swelling or something else, consult your local physician immediately. Do not leave an itch untreated as it can easily spread to other areas. Moreover, do not scratch and then touch other parts of the body. They might get infected too. So beware!
Wear loose, light and cotton clothes in summer to prevent itches in dry skin. Tight clothing leads to rubbing of the material against the sweaty skin which can cause severe itching and allergy. Some materials like nylon etc. are just not right for the skin during summers.
If the itching continues for more than a week or so or if it spreads to other parts, be sure to consult you doctor as the itching may be a symptom of a much larger, yet to be detected or diagnosed problem.
Dry Skin itching in winters is mainly due to the lack of humidity. There is a constant urge to rub your hands over your face. As far as possible this should be avoided. When you scratch an itch, you are also rubbing off the applied moisturizer or lotion. You need to be careful about it and avoid it.

Posted by Dry Skin Treatment on May 21, 2010
The area around the eyes is the most sensitive and therefore needs special attention when it comes to dealing with it. If you are one of those who have extremely dry, wrinkled and cracky skin around the eyes which makes you look tired and aged, then you need to find solution to this problem at the earliest. The number of people experiencing dryness in skin around the eyes is increasing these days.
Dry skin around the eyes is caused due to a large number of reasons. A few of them include:
- Sleep deprivation
- Stress
- Lack of nutritious food
- Aging
- Constant staring at the TV or computer screen
- Eye related problems.
Many girls today are developing dry skin around the eye area at a very early age due to the above mentioned reasons, the most common being stress and sleep deprivation. While it is not possible to avoid the causes for dry skin, you can work on the treatment.
Skin products aimed at moisturizing other parts of the body may not be useful for the eye as the skin under the eye is extremely thin and contains few oil glands. Thus, use only those skin creams and eye gels that cater to the eye. Petroleum jelly is the most popular option in this direction. Propolis, another substance rich in vitamins is good for both men and women. However, it is most advisable to use petroleum jelly for kids.
Remember that the eyes are the first thing that people notice about us. And therefore caring for the eyes is extremely important and should not be taken for granted. Always try and keep the eye area healthy, clear and beautiful. Fine lines, dark circles and wrinkles can easily affect the eye area. They make the person look exhausted and ill. Therefore you need to take charge before things get worse.
Make sure you wear sunglasses when you step out in the sun. Apply a dark circle gel or any eye gel if you have one every time you expose yourself to the outside world. Make sure your diet is healthy and nutritious. Your eyes can convey an ill diet very easily.
